Memorize Psalm 9:9-10

From Caitlin Estes:
Psalm 9:9-10
The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
And those who know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
Lately the brokenness in the world has just felt like too much. I’ll start praying through all the needs and requests of those dear to me, and it feels overwhelming. The weight is too great to bear. The pain is too raw. What will happen next? How do we move forward when things don’t end well? In moments like that, it’s easy for me to be tossed, unanchored, into what feels like the hurricane winds of life.
This blessed verse reminds me that God is yearning to give me respite. While He doesn’t take away the struggles and pain in our lives, He does promise to hold us steady and sure. He is what we can cling to when traumatic winds sweep through our lives.
Things aren’t as they were intended. Sickness, hopelessness, untamable pride, fear of the future, death… these were not a part of the original plan. But none of these things can ever be as strong as our God, who draws us back to who He is: love, hope, humility, faith, abundant life.
God, help me to remember the times when I was firmly rooted in who You are. When I remember Your faithfulness, I can’t help but put my trust in You. You weep with me. You mourn with me. You lead me, always, to life abundant. Hold me, God, when life and its chaos swirl around me.
