Memorize Psalm 139:13-14
From Marianne Walker
13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well
When my daughter was born, a close friend of mine made a beautiful wall hanging for her nursery of Ps. 139:13-14. I’ve seen them in a lot of nurseries and in the aisles at Hobby Lobby. It is a beautifully worded verse and makes us feel good. What a great picture of someone being purposefully made in a certain way by God. As a person who knits and crochets, I have always felt like I had a good perspective on this verse. I know what it takes to start with something as simple as thread and use your hands and your knowledge to form something unique and beautiful. I know the emotion that seeing those creations in use evokes.
What I realized while preparing for this devotion is that while my perspective is informed and a great sentiment, it was shallow. As shallow as the one inch thick board hanging on the wall of our nursery. These words aren’t great because of the image they bring to mind, but because they are God breathed. They aren’t a cute saying in calligraphy that catch the eye, they are biblical truths that guard my heart and mind from attacks of the enemy. When I am feeling “less than”, when I am feeling alone, when I’m feeling defeated, I look to these words because, it doesn’t just say truth about me and how I am made, but it also tells me who my God is.
