Memorize Matthew 5:11-12

I hate lying. Ron Swanson was right when he said, “The only thing I hate more than a liar is skim milk, which is water lying about being milk.” The injustice is what I hate so much. It’s one thing to tell people I’ve done something stupid or bad. That happens. It’s another to make it up. Lies seem impossible to fight. They often cause damage even if they are proved untrue. I hear things about Christians in the news that just aren’t true and I get so frustrated. I hate lies and few things make me as angry.

This is why this verse is so challenging. Jesus says that the blessed life isn’t the one where everyone likes you. No, that’s shallow. The good life is one where people persecute you and make up lies to discredit you because of your love and service to Jesus. It’s the blessed life because your Father sees, your Father knows the truth, your Father loves you, and your Father will reward you. In heaven you are treasured when you are persecuted for Jesus’ sake. So rejoice! It’s hard. It seems impossible, but it’s true. So memorize this so you don’t forget.
